Pahren entered the Ready Room. "Sir, I've been studying the Language of Undaria and their History. I think I've found something worth pointing out. Their language and the Pandarian Language are quite similar. I believe that the Undarians may have some common ancestry to the Pandarians."

Lucian looked up from his PADs and said with a chuckle "Yes, come in Ambassador. How did you come to this conclusion? The Pandarians are more than a few light years away."

"Well, sir. I was studying the Undarian Language. Apparently there are the same number of phonemes in the Undarian and Pandarian Languages. They also both share common phrases, and grammatical usage. In fact, they even have some of the same inflections and allophones in their languages. I guess it's not correct for me to say that they defiantly have some common ancestry, however, the two cultures must have interacted quite a bit with each other in order to have their languages drift, even if it may have been just partially. For example, the Undarian words for brother are Danus Karaunais. In Pandarian they are Dana Caram. If you study both languages further, you will see that they have the same was of naming relations. They both literally translate to: 'family brother' and that is how all relations work in both languages. These are the only languages that are spoken near here that use that rule. And it's the same way for many other grammatical rules." Said Tarnek.

"How long ago do you suspect this happened? Do you think that at one time they were members of the same species?" Lucian said taking a closer look at the ambassador's findings.

Pahren mulled the Commodore's question over. "Well sir, It's hard to tell without actually interacting with the species. The best I can say for certain is a really long time. As for wether or not they were from the same species, it's a distinct possibility. I think it would be best for the Doctor to take a look at both species physiology. That would tell us if they were or not for sure."

"Very well, but we'll make some more detailed scans when we meet the Undarians. We should be there in a few hours...make sure you and your teem are ready."

Pahren nodded. "Yes sir. I don't advise we bring the Pandarians up, however. There may be some 'sore' feelings left about them."

"Agreed, in fact if at all possible we won't even allude to the Pandarians. We will not even bring up any possible connection with the Pandarians." Lucian said looking directly into the Bajoran's eyes to prove his seriousness.

Pahren nodded. He noticed the Commodore looking into his eyes. His diplomatic training told him to keep a cool mind and ignore it. "I think that would be the best course of action. I have nothing to add sir."

Lucian nodded, thinking but trying not to pry into the man's head. "Very well. Dismissed."
