Chapter 2: Pull at the Threads - A New Job
by Lieutenant JG Jeff Cannon & Commodore Lucian Garoff
Jeff had just arrived back on the ship, he had taken the time after the last mission to further his training and was now coming back as a fully trained engineer. Jeff tapped his comm badge "Computer locate Commodore Garoff" and within seconds the computer replied "Commodore Garoff is in the captains readyroom" and with that Jeff made his way to the bridge and when he reached the door of the readyroom he sounded the chime.
Lucian had just sipped his fresh cup of coffee when he heard the all to familiar 'bing' of his door. "Come in." Lucian said as he put down his cup and waited for who would enter.
Jeff walked into the readyroom, "Good morning sir I would like to show you this." said Jeff as he handed Lucian the padd he had been carrying containing the details of the courses he had just completed.
Lucian looked over the PADD and looked at the numerous different courses that his Lieutenant had completed and thought to himself. He could easily read the man's mind, but Lucian wanted to gain a level of trust with his crew and that should start with his senior officers. "Nice work Lieutenant, but why should I be looking at this?"
"Well sir I am wanting to make a bit of a change in my career and having gained the qualifications and also from noticing the vacancy I would like to be considered for the position of chief engineer." answered Jeff.
"Indeed you have. Well I would have to go over this with Commander Pearce...why exactly do you want to become the Saigon's new Chief Engineer?"
"I believe I would be more suited for engineering than I am in my current position" answered Jeff .
Lucian was trying to poke a little deeper to get the answers that he wanted, "Well do you feel like you cannot exceed your potential or is it that you just want to be the one that I can blame when the Saigon is without warp?" Lucian with a slight chuckle.
Jeff smirked at the Commodores remark and answered "I just guess I'm more comfortable with a hypo spanner and a computer terminal, I seem to be more of a hands on kind of guy"
"Alright, I'll take it under consideration. I'll also go over this with Commander Pearce." Lucian said looking down at the lieutenant's credentials. Still noticing that he had not moved he looked up at Jeff and said "Anything else Lieutenant Cannon?"
"No Sir , thank you" answered Jeff as he waited to be dismissed.
Lucian simply nodded as was his silent 'dismissed'.
